WebQuests

I didn't know what a WebQuest was until last class. A WebQuest is an online, inquiry-based learning activity that students can access for working individually or in groups. Lesson objectives are given with steps to complete, and an evaluation rubric is provided. Links to certain sources are given, and students can search the internet for resources. Anyone can create a WebQuest designed specifically for a certain topic. However, WebQuests are what you make them. A couple of the examples we looked at in class seemed like good ideas at first, but ended up being excessively wordy or unclear. A WebQuest should be clear and to the point, with achievable goals and objectives.I could see myself using a WebQuest in the ESL classroom with more advanced learners.

This is a webquest that can be used in the ESL classroom that allows students to learn more about each others cultural celebrations. Students choose a cultural celebration or holiday that is unique to their country of origin and research why it is special. To use this webquest, your students will need to have basic reading, writing, and keyboarding skills as well as be able to have basic navigation skills in order to use the internet for research.
